THE MINISTRY OF COUNSELING

I guess you could say that the first counseling session occurred when one man sat with another to tell him his problems hoping for a solution. Did he find help? To some degree he probably did.

Today man continues to look for help when his problems are too complex or too overwhelming to sort out or deal with. Where does man turn today?

There are over 200 different forms of counseling available today. These forms or theories are based on human understanding and opinion.

BIBLICAL / PASTORAL COUNSELING

BIBLICAL COUNSELING or PASTORAL COUNSELING on the other hand is different. Rather than depend on man's ideas of what life is all about the Biblical Counselor turns to the
"Author of Life" and His revealed communication to man-THE BIBLE- for guidance and problem solving.

Can you imagine someone spending $75,000 for a new Lexus and then sending it for repairs to someone that refuses to look at the owner's manual?!

Can you imagine a human being trying to sort out the complexities of this life looking for help from places where the Owner's Manual for successful living is never referred to?!! It is ludicrous, isn't it?

This then is the thrust of
BIBLICAL COUNSELING;

2 Peter 1:3-5

" His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness. Through these He has given us His very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. For this very reason make every effort to add to your faith, goodness and to goodness knowledge…"

PROVERBS 3:5,6

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight."
